It’s hard to believe but it’s been 40 years since the Common Application was first developed. As the name indicates, the “Common App,” is a single, standardized application that is accepted at multiple colleges and universities. The developers of the application, the Common Application Membership Association, strive to create a holistic application that is fair, reliable and accessible. Through the years, the membership association has expanded from 15 members to well over 500. That means there are now over 500 colleges and universities worldwide that accept the Common Application. Since its inception, the Common App has evolved and this year, the 2015-2016 version includes several new changes that are designed to make the user interface easier, more straightforward and give applicants and admissions officers more options.
